Alternative routes proposed as bridge expansion joint repair causes severe expressway congestion

HCMC – The Dong Nai Traffic Police Department has proposed alternative routes for road users as the ongoing bridge expansion joint repair on the HCMC–Long Thanh–Dau Giay Expressway has been causing severe congestion, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

The repair of an expansion joint on the Long Thanh Bridge on the four-lane expressway, which connects HCMC and Dong Nai Province, has led to one of the two lanes in the direction from Dong Nai to HCMC being closed, which has resulted in heavy traffic jams.

On July 16, a prolonged traffic jam was reported in the area, compounded by the simultaneous closure of a lane on Provincial Road 743 at the Tan Van intersection for Beltway No. 3 construction. This has further strained National Highway 1 toward HCMC.

To ease pressure on National Highway 51, Dong Nai Traffic Police have suggested detour options. Passenger cars and buses under 16 seats can use the Ben Luc–Long Thanh Expressway, then Truong Chinh–Tran Phu, also known as Road 319, and Ton Duc Thang to reach the Cat Lai Ferry station.

Alternatively, these vehicles can take National Highway 51 to Ton Duc Thang, heading to the Cat Lai Ferry. Buses over 16 seats and heavy trucks should follow National Highway 51 to National Highway 1 via the Dong Nai Bridge.

The concurrent restrictions are straining traffic at a key gateway to Vietnam’s southern economic region. For vehicles moving from National Highway 1 to Provincial Road 743 at Tan Van, a detour through the Binh An Textile Industrial Zone to My Phuoc–Tan Van Road is advised.

Another route involves Bui Huu Nghia Road, National Highway 1, Buu Hoa Bridge, Dang Van Tron, An Hao Bridge, and Dong Nai Bridge to the Tan Van Overpass.

Authorities recommend drivers use these routes to avoid congestion during the repair period.
