HCMC – The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu has set up three more Covid-19 treatment facilities as the coronavirus continues to rage in the province with an upsurge in community infections.
Over the past three days, the province has reported over 500 cases, with the source of transmission of over 300 cases remaining unknown. This morning, October 28, it reported an additional 224 cases, including 108 with unknown sources of transmission.
This major spike in new cases has overwhelmed most of the medical treatment facilities in the province and forced the province to set up more treatment facilities.
In Hong Dan District, two Covid treatment facilities were set up in Ngan Dua Town, with a combined capacity of 600 beds. The Hong Dan District Medical Center is in charge of managing and operating these facilities.
They were put into operation yesterday, October 27, and will continue operations until they are no longer needed.
Another Covid treatment facility was set up at a dormitory in Bac Lieu City’s Ward 1. This 200-bed facility can admit and treat asymptomatic cases and those with mild symptoms. It is operated by the Bac Lieu City Medical Center.
Further, a team of 10 healthcare workers from the HCMC-based Cho Ray Hospital reportedly arrived in Bac Lieu this morning to aid the province to treat Covid patients.
By the morning of October 27, the province had vaccinated more than 475,000 people. Among them, nearly 375,500 people received their first shot, and nearly 100,000 were fully vaccinated. This is among the southern provinces that have low vaccination rates.
