HCMC – The Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau aims to boost its shrimp exports to US$1.65 billion by 2030, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In the first seven months of this year, the province produced around 147,600 tons of shrimp, a 0.8% increase against the same period last year.

During this period, Ca Mau’s total aquatic product output reached over 380,900 tons, a 1.7% year-on-year rise. The province’s aquatic product export value was estimated at US$628.3 million, a 9.9% increase against the same period in 2023.

Currently, Ca Mau has around 280,000 hectares under shrimp farming. This includes over 86,000 hectares of integrated farming systems such as shrimp-rice, shrimp-forest, and shrimp-crab-fish. Additionally, about 186,000 hectares are used for improved extensive shrimp farming, and around 6,700 hectares for intensive and super-intensive farming.

By 2025, the province targets maintaining its shrimp farming area at 280,000 hectares, with a total production goal of 280,000 tons and an export value of US$1.4 billion. The 2030 goal is to increase production to 350,000 tons, with an export value of US$1.65 billion.

To meet these targets, Ca Mau plans to implement several measures, including organizing production appropriately, applying advanced technologies to adapt to climate change, and protecting the environment.

The province will also invest in infrastructure to support aquaculture, promote large-scale ecological and organic shrimp farming, and expand market access.
