HCMC – The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho has sent its first shipments of green-skinned mango to Australia and the U.S. by air.

The two batches, totaling two tons, will be exported under an agreement between Vina T&T Company and Loc Hung Agricultural Cooperative in Co Do District.

Can Tho now has 3,376 hectares under mango cultivation, representing 13% of the city’s total fruit tree area, with annual output of nearly 17,500 tons.

Green-skinned mango is predominantly grown in this region, making up 47% of the total mango growing area, or 1,587 hectares. Hoa Loc mango accounts for 30%, or 1,013 hectares, while other varieties occupy the remaining 23%.

Co Do District has the largest mango cultivation area in Can Tho City, with over 2,100 hectares.

Vietnam first exported the fruit to the U.S. in 2019, while Australia began importing mango from Vietnam since 2017.
