HCMC – Tran Duy Dong, deputy director general of the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, has been detained on alleged charges of receiving bribes in a case related to Xuyen Viet Oil Company.
At a monthly Government press conference this afternoon, April 3, Major General To An Xo, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Security, said that Dong, who used to serve as head of the Domestic Markets Department, had been put in police custody for bribe taking.
Along with Dong, Dinh Tien Dung, chief accountant of Xuyen Viet Oil Company and Nguyen Tien Long, head of the Sales Department at Xuyen Viet Oil Company, were prosecuted and detained on alleged charges of giving bribes.
Over the past six months, several officials have been arrested following an investigation into violations of regulations on the management and use of State assets causing losses and wastefulness; lack of responsibility leading to serious consequences; accepting and giving bribes at Xuyen Viet Oil Travel and Transport Trading Co., Ltd. and some related organizations.
The former Party secretary of Ben Tre Province, Le Duc Tho, was earlier detained for alleged abuse of official powers to influence others for personal gains. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai and Director of the HCMC Department of Finance Le Duy Minh were accused of accepting bribes and detained.
Established in 2005 and headquartered in HCMC, Xuyen Viet Oil Company is one of the 37 key fuel distributors. In August 2023, this company had its petroleum import-export license revoked by the Ministry of Industry and Trade due to its violations and misappropriation of the price stabilization fund.
