Dragon Capital no longer major shareholder of MWG

HCMC – Dragon Capital is no longer a major shareholder of Mobile World Investment Corporation after selling 700,000 MWG shares on March 9, reducing its ownership from 5.02% to 4.97%.

The shares were sold by Amersham Industries Limited, one of the funds linked to Dragon Capital. The transaction lowered the group’s stake below the 5% threshold for major shareholders.

MWG’s share price has declined in recent weeks. From February 2 to March 13, the stock of the company lost 12.49%, from VND93,700 to VND82,000 per share.

The retailer reported higher revenue and profit in 2025. Revenue reached VND156.46 trillion, up 16.5% from a year earlier, while net profit surged 89.5% year-on-year to VND7.08 trillion. However, MWG’s gross profit margin narrowed to 19.4% from 20.5%.

The VN-Index fell 13.37 points, or 0.78%, to 1,696.24 at the close on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange (HOSE), with declines in energy and chemical stocks weighing on the market.

The exchange saw 153 winners and 167 losers. Trading volume reached more than 1.02 billion shares worth VND27.43 trillion. Volume rose nearly 7% from the previous session, while value increased about 1%. Block deals accounted for over 145 million shares valued at VND2.7 trillion.

The benchmark index has now declined for a second straight week. It lost 71.6 points, or 4.05%, this week, following a drop of more than 112 points, or nearly 6%, in the previous week.

Energy and chemical stocks saw strong selling late in the session. Oil and gas stocks PLX and GAS both hit their floor prices, ending at VND48,400 and VND91,800, with trading volumes of 11.9 million and 4.44 million shares, respectively.

Other energy stocks also closed down. BSR and PVT both plunged to their floor prices. BSR traded more than 35.6 million shares, while PVT recorded over 24.6 million shares. PVD and PVP fell more than 3%.

Chemical producer DGC fell more than 4% to VND77,400. Chemical stocks such as DPM, CSV, DCM and BFC dropped between more than 2% and over 5%.

Stocks in transportation, industrial park, logistics, retail and brokerage sectors also declined, with many dipping between nearly 3% and more than 5%.

Some real estate and construction stocks moved in the opposite direction. NVL remained at its ceiling price set earlier in the session. HHV, FCN and PPC also rose to their daily limits by the close.

Lender SHB took the lead by liquidity with over 57.5 million shares changing hands, but it ended flat at VND14,950.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index fell 2.01 points, or 0.81%, to 245.84 at the close. The exchange recorded 56 gainers and 86 decliners. Trading volume reached more than 121.2 million shares worth VND2.43 trillion.
