HCMC – Pham Thai Ha, ex-assistant to former National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, could face 5-6 years in prison for his involvement in the Thuan An Group case.
On September 10, following two days of questioning, the Hanoi People’s Procuracy announced its indictment against 29 defendants in five bidding fraud cases connected to Thuan An Group.
Pham Thai Ha, former deputy head of the National Assembly Office and former assistant to the ex-chairman of the legislature, is the only defendant charged with abusing his position and influence for personal gain.
He has paid VND1.2 billion in compensation after being accused of taking VND750 million from Thuan An.
Le O Pich, former vice chairman of the Bac Giang Province People’s Committee, is charged with abusing his position while performing official duties, with prosecutors recommending a prison term of three to four years.
He allegedly took a VND4 billion bribe from Thuan An Group in exchange for helping the company secure a project worth over VND1.1 trillion.
The remaining 27 defendants stood trial for violating bidding regulations causing serious consequences, with Nguyen Duy Hung, former chairman of Thuan An Group, facing the heaviest proposed sentence of 10 to 11 years in prison.
The indictment states that Hung leveraged his close connections with senior state officials to seek their intervention and influence over local authorities and the Ministry of Transport, which gave Thuan An Group favorable conditions in bidding and construction.
