HCMC – The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has praised the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap’s efforts to improve agricultural production and sought to establish farm cooperation with local authorities.
FAO is willing to work closely with the province in areas of disease prevention and natural resource management, said Rémi Nono Womdim, FAO representative in Vietnam, at a meeting with local officials in Dong Thap Province.
The UN agency’s goal is to encourage green, sustainable agriculture and develop a competitive marketing strategy for local products.
Local farming, particularly rice growing, is essential for food security at home and abroad, according to Pham Thien Nghia, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee.
Faced with extreme weather conditions, local agencies and farmers have pursued climate change mitigation and more resilient agricultural practices.
Nghia said FAO’s suggestions aligned with local development goals and pledged to collaborate with FAO counterparts on joint efforts.
