HCMC – As HCMC is facing issues with urban transport, waste management, environmental pollution and flooding, it hopes to connect with Dutch scientists and businesses to find solutions to climate change, flooding and sea level rise, said Vo Van Hoan, vice chairman of the HCMC government.
Hoan was speaking at his meeting yesterday, 26 April, with Vice Minister for Foreign Economic Relations of the Netherlands Hanneke Schuiling during her Vietnam visit, reported the news website of the city government.
HCMC highly values the Dutch capacity and experience in climate change adaptation, water management and sustainable agriculture, Hoan added.
The city has yet to fully tap the potential of its seaports, so it would be great if Rotterdam authorities visit the city to survey and promote investment cooperation between the two cities, especially in the construction and development of a seaport system.
According to HCMC, the Netherlands is currently the city’s fifth largest foreign investor with 161 projects with a total pledged investment of nearly US$5 billion.
Speaking at the meeting, Hanneke Schuiling said Dutch firms active in HCMC highly valued cooperation potential between the Netherlands and Vietnam, in general, and HCMC, in particular, especially in climate change adaptation and agricultural production.
As for cooperation potential between HCMC and Dutch localities, the Dutch vice minister said the mayor of Rotterdam wants to visit HCMC to bolster cooperation in seaport development, climate change response, among others.
She stressed that the Netherlands is home to many companies specializing in building green infrastructure and urban projects. These Dutch partners expect to build cooperation ties with HCMC in the fields of mutual concern and growth potential.
