HCMC – The HCMC Department of Health will shut down four Covid field hospitals from January 19 as the number of Covid infections and fatalities is declining.
The decision was made as the Covid pandemic in the city has been brought under control, director of the municipal department Tang Chi Thuong said in a dispatch sent to the city’s hospitals on January 14.
The closure of these field hospitals will allow several medical workers to rest and recover their health after the long fight against Covid.
The medical workers working at these field hospitals will return to their units. However, the municipal department also asked the directors of the hospitals to keep manpower ready to join the fight against Covid if the department reopens these field hospitals.
Meanwhile, Covid patients receiving treatment there will either be discharged from the hospitals or transferred to other hospitals in the city, the local media reported.
The number of Covid patients under treatment at the city’s field hospitals accounts for 10%-30% of the bed capacity, the municipal department said, adding that due to the Omicron variant, the city must always be prepared to fight the new wave of the pandemic.
The city’s field hospitals will remain operational during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.
The Covid Field Hospital No. 12 is in charge of admitting and treating imported cases or Omicron-hit patients. The municipal department will dispatch more medical workers to support the hospital.
