HCMC – The HCMC government has approved a plan to pilot five electric bus routes for 24 months starting from the first quarter of 2022.

The city will provide a subsidy of 44.1% for these bus routes, the local media reported.

The municipal government tasked the HCMC Department of Transport with working with the relevant departments and agencies to use technology to conduct the pilot.

The method of selling e-bus tickets will be modern and make it easier to control revenue and increase the efficacy of the e-bus service.

It is necessary to pilot the five e-bus routes as the service is modern and eco-friendly and suitable for new urban areas, according to the municipal Department of Transport.

Vinbus Ecology Transport Services Limited Liability Company will carry out the pilot in two phases. In the first phase from the first quarter of the year, the firm will operate the VB03 route connecting Vinhomes Grand Park in Thu Duc City with the Saigon Bus Station.

In the second phase from the third quarter, the remaining four e-bus routes will be put into service. These routes will connect the Vinhome Grand Park Urban Area in Thu Duc City to the Emart trade center in Go Vap District, the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Tan Binh District, the new Mien Dong Coach Station in Thu Duc City and the Vietnam National University HCMC urban area in Thu Duc City.
