HCMC – The HCMC government has written to the Ministry of Transport urging it to widen the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway as soon as possible, the local media reported.
The expressway has seen a strong surge in traffic, according to the municipal government. Especially when the underway Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai Province is up and running, the expressway would be overwhelmed with heavy traffic.
To link it to certain routes in the city, the municipal government proposed that the ministry carefully research and invest in the construction of An Phu intersection in District 2 to connect it with the entire expressway.
The city is in the process of completing a proposal to implement the first phase of the An Phu Intersection project under the public investment format. Work on the project is set to end at the same time as the completion of the bus rapid transit system in 2021.
To ensure efficiency in the construction of the projects, the city proposed the ministry direct the competent agencies to closely cooperate with the city during the research and implementation stages.
Apart from this, HCMC sought approval to add an interchange linking the expressway and Long Phuoc Street in District 9 to boost the economic development of the district.
In addition, it is also necessary to work out the compensation, support and resettlement plan once to avoid causing hardships to affected residents.
The 55-kilometer-long HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway, whose main investor is the Vietnam Expressway Corporation, has been put into operation since February 2015. However, traffic congestion has seen the expressway become overloaded.
