HCMC – Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group, has expressed interest in investing billions of U.S. dollars in multiple infrastructure projects in Vietnam, including Lien Chieu port in Danang, Chu Lai airport, and the second phase of Long Thanh International Airport.

During his ongoing state visit to India, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, India’s largest conglomerate specializing in infrastructure and energy, on July 31.

At the meeting, Adani said that his company has proposed investing over US$2 billion in the Lien Chieu port project in Danang.

He also expressed interest in particpating in the development of the Vinh Tan 3 thermal power project in Binh Thuan Province, with an estimated investment of US$2.8 billion. Additionally, he proposed partnering with Vietnamese companies to invest in airports, aviation, and logistics, including Chu Lai Airport and the second phase of Long Thanh International Airport.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh responded that Vietnam plans to select a single investor for the overall infrastructure of the Lien Chieu port project. However, for the port’s operation, foreign companies can collaborate with domestic entities in accordance with legal regulations.

Prime Minister Chinh hailed Adani Group’s proposal to participate in the development of Long Thanh International Airport Phase 2 and Chu Lai Airport. He advised Adani to work with Vietnamese authorities to complete legal procedures, highlighting Chu Lai Airport’s strategic location and significant development potential.

Additionally, he expressed hopes that Adani would increase technology transfer, collaborate, and assist Vietnamese businesses in enhancing their capabilities and integrating into the group’s supply chain and ecosystem.

The Vietnamese Government, he affirmed, will support and facilitate investors for effective and sustainable business operations in Vietnam, including in the infrastructure sector.

Adani Group, the largest airport operator in India, manages Mundra Port, the largest Indian port. The group is also involved in electricity transmission and green energy investments. Billionaire Gautam Adani became the richest person in Asia on June 3, with a net worth of US$122 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
