HCMC – Japan is seeking ways to ramp up the export of agro-forestry-fishery products to Vietnam, the former’s fifth biggest farm produce buyer, Consul General of Japan in HCMC Watanabe Nobuhiro told a meeting with representatives of Akuruhi on July 20.
Speaking at the meeting, Phan Thanh Tan, founder of Akuruhi, a leading Japanese food distributor in Vietnam, said that given the various incentives from Japan, the firm would import more high-quality Japanese products and provide the market at reasonable prices.
Consul General Watanabe encouraged Akuruhi to launch technology-based services to make it convenient for consumers in terms of purchase and payment.
The Akuruhi supermarket chain has rolled out a QR code system, allowing consumers to quicken their payments, according to Akuruhi.
Besides, the Japanese consul general in HCMC suggested Akuruhi boost the connectivity and cooperation between Japanese firms and Vietnamese enterprises to diversify Japanese products, including beef, pharmaceutical products and functional food, in the local market.
The consul general also proposed Akuruhi team up with the Japanese side to organize a program to introduce Japanese goods to Vietnamese customers in 2023, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Japan-Vietnam partnership.
Over the past few years, many of Japan’s major retailers have opened commercial centers, supermarkets and groceries in Vietnam, providing the local market with a large volume of goods.
Some Japanese retailers say that Vietnam is a potential market due to its young population, rising personal income and developing economy.
