HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, April 28, confirmed 7,116 fresh Covid infections, the lowest in a single day in two months, down 888 against yesterday.

Hanoi City still took the lead with 913 cases, followed by Phu Tho with 475 and Vinh Phuc with 418. Other localities detected 300 cases or below each.

The latest Covid infections have raised the country’s caseload to over 10.6 million, with more than 9.2 million of them declared free of the disease.

As of April 27, over one million doses of Covid vaccines had been administered to children aged 5-11 in 57 cities and provinces, two weeks after the vaccination drive for this age group was kicked off, according to the ministry.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long urged all cities and provinces to speed up the vaccination of children under 12 as the inoculation speed remained slow.

Statistics from the General Department of Preventive Medicine indicate that the country has over 11.8 million children 5 to 11 who are eligible to be vaccinated.

Up to date, Vietnam has received over 4.6 million doses for children under 12, with 2.3 million of them allocated to all localities, the local media reported.

In another development, Bac Lieu Province in the Mekong Delta region today reported no Covid cases for the first time in nearly two years of being struck by the pandemic.

The province is seeing a mere 30 Covid patients receiving treatment, according to the provincial Center for Disease Control.

Since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, the province has confirmed over 46,400 Covid cases and 442 Covid deaths.
