HCMC – The Government has appointed Nguyen Van Duoc as chairman of the People’s Committee of the new Ho Chi Minh City.

The appointment was announced today, June 30, at a ceremony held by the HCMC Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee.

Duoc has six deputies, namely Nguyen Loc Ha, Nguyen Van Tho, Nguyen Van Dung, Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Bui Xuan Cuong, and Bui Minh Thanh.

The leadership changes are part of a broader plan to consolidate administrative units at provincial and commune levels and dissolve district-level administrations. The city also announced the formation of new Party and government organizations across its communes, wards and special zones.

Previously, Duoc held several senior positions in Long An Province, including director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, district Party secretary, and provincial Party secretary.

He was elected to the Party Central Committee at the 13th National Party Congress in 2021. Since February 2025, he has served as deputy secretary of the HCMC Party Committee and chairman of the city’s People’s Committee.
