With high rainfall for many consecutive days, central localities are facing multiple difficulties caused by floods. In addition, the risk of landslides and flash floods remains high. The water levels in some rivers have surpassed the records.
The prime minister has assigned the Ministry of Finance to take 4,000 tons of rice from the national rice reserves to supply Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam provinces with each province receiving 1,000 tons as relief aid for flood-hit residents there.
Over the last month, many enterprises, organizations and individuals have actively supported flood-stricken residents in the central region.
Joining hands with the people nationwide, on October 30 and 31, representatives of Novaland Group and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces, with VND15 billion donated by the group’s employees and sourced from the group’s budget, have directly visited and presented gift sets in cash and in kind to residents who are struggling with the consequences of floods and landslides.
Accompanying the program, Anova Safe Food Corporation donated 1,000 milk boxes.
Nguyen Thi Be, a resident in Tan Duong Village, Thuan An Town, Phu Vang District, Thua Thien-Hue Province, said her house collapsed due to the recent floods after its roof was blown up in the previous storm. Her husband sells lottery tickets while she works for others to earn a living. They earn nearly VND5 million a month but must cover the daily expenses of six people.
Receiving a gift set from Novaland Group, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the group for supporting her family.
Floods have not only caused property losses but also claimed the lives of many people.
Representatives of the group were touched when Doan Thi Dung, who lives in a makeshift home in Quang Minh Commune, Ba Don District, Quang Binh Province, related how her husband was killed in the historic floods. She said the floodwaters this year were much higher than those in previous years. Her husband was disabled, so he drowned when the water level suddenly surged.
Besides losing her properties, Dung has to suffer the pain of losing her husband. She thanked the local authorities and benefactors for helping her overcome the grief.
In this charity program, more than 1,000 gift sets were given to residents in Phu Ho and Phu Luong communes of Thuan An Town, Phu Vang District, Thua Thien-Hue Province; Quang Tien and Quang Minh communes of Quang Binh Province’s Ba Don Town; and Trung Son and Trung Hai communes of Quang Tri Province’s Gio Linh District.
The delegation also visited and encouraged families losing relatives and properties in the recent flash floods.
In the coming periods, Novaland Group will continue supporting central residents to address the consequences of natural disasters and stabilize their lives by helping them rebuild or repair houses.
Especially, the group will support poor students in the region as their clothes, books and notebooks have been swept away.
Nguyen Nam Tien, chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Thua Thien-Hue Province, said the provincial authorities highly appreciated the support of enterprises, including Novaland, saying that the floods this year were complicated and floodwater levels broke the record levels in the past. However, the local authorities’ prompt and effective actions to respond to the floods and the enthusiastic support of enterprises, organizations and individuals have helped minimize the losses and compensate residents’ damages.
He expressed his deep gratitude to enterprises and organizations, including Novaland, for their contributions.
