HCMC – Petrolimex Saigon has reported a recent spike in gasoline retail sales as other retail companies temporarily closed their gas stations amid the undersupply.

Petrolimex Saigon has 71 gas stations and 52 franchisees across HCMC, accounting for 20% of the total gas stations in the city and 35% of the city’s gasoline market, Pham Anh Tuan, director of Petrolimex Saigon, said during a press briefing held yesterday, October 13.

According to him, many gas stations in the city temporarily closed and restricted fuel sales, forcing customers to flock to the operational stations. Thus, Petrolimex Saigon’s sales soared 135% on average and shot up to 240% on peak days.

The company usually sold 1,300 to 1,500 cubic meters of fuel a day but the figure has nearly doubled lately, at 2,900 cubic meters per day.

This week, the company will take delivery of 100,000 cubic meters of fuel, including 80,000 cubic meters of RON 95-III gasoline and 20,000 cubic meters of E5 RON 92 bio-gasoline, enabling it to meet consumer demand, Tuan said.

Petrolimex Saigon also plans to increase fuel orders in November to help prevent a fuel shortage in HCMC, and other southern provinces.
