HCMC – The National Assembly (NA) today elected Phan Van Mai, chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, as chairman of the newly formed Economic and Financial Committee of the legislature.

The committee was established by merging the Economic Committee and the Finance and Budget Committee.

It is in charge of overseeing economic regulations, land policies, monetary and banking activities, finance, state budget, and state auditing. It also evaluates programs, projects, and development plans concerning economic and social targets, policies, and key national financial regulations assigned by the NA and the NA Standing Committee.

The committee supervises the implementation of national financial policies, the allocation of revenues and expenditures between central and local budgets, and the safety limits of national debt, public debt, and government debt. It is also responsible for reviewing state budget estimates, central budget allocation plans, and the final settlement of state budgets.
