HCMC – Phu Quoc Island off the coast of Kien Giang Province is experiencing a travel boom, with flights, ferry services, and hotels nearing full capacity as the Lunar New Year approaches.
Data showed that over 60 flights have been landing on a daily basis at Phu Quoc International Airport in recent months, with peak times seeing arrivals every five minutes. Among these, more than 30 were international flights, bringing around 10,000 passengers each day—a fivefold increase compared to the same period last year.
Over 30 high-speed ferries have been making daily trips between the mainland and the island, with peak-day arrivals surpassing 15,000 visitors across all transportation modes.
Phu Quoc has consistently ranked in the Top 3 destinations on domestic and international booking platforms for the Lunar New Year, reflecting the island’s soaring popularity. Billion-dollar entertainment and hospitality hubs, such as Sunset Town and Bai Khem, have been operating at full capacity in recent months.
“The occupancy rate at our facility in December and January 2025 is consistently above 90%, with some days reaching 100%,” said Vu Cuong, owner of Times Corner Hotel in Sunset Town.
Nearly all 40 accommodation facilities, ranging from five-star resorts like JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, New World Phu Quoc Resort, Premier Residences Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, and La Festa Phu Quoc to three- and four-star hotels in Sunset Town and Bai Khem, have reported occupancy rates exceeding 90%.
During the Lunar New Year holiday between the end of January and the start of February in 2025, five-star hotels are expected to see average occupancy rates of 85%, while four-star hotels are almost fully booked for key holiday dates.
Phu Quoc’s tourism industry has seen a prosperous 2024, marked by significant visitor growth and steady revenue increases. By 2030, the island is projected to welcome four times the current number of tourists, fueling rising demand for services.
