HCMC – The prime minister has urged Dong Nai Province to hand over land for the Long Thanh International Airport project by no later than September this year.
For the big-ticket project, the Government requires 5,000 hectares of land in the province.
The chairman of the provincial government has been asked to be in charge of the land handover to ensure that 1,810 hectares, or a part of the total land required, is handed over in February, according to a recent announcement from the Government Office.
In addition, the provincial chairman has been tasked with resettling residents who are affected by the project and providing them better living places.
After the land handover, it would be necessary to start work on site leveling and speed up the design work for the traffic connectivity systems. In addition, preparedness for selecting contractors will need to be fast-tracked.
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) said it has so far received over 1,200 hectares of the 1,810 hectares of land required for the first phase of the airport project and 165 hectares of the total 722 hectares meant to be kept as reserve.
The ACV has also asked the Dong Nai government to hand over an additional 66.7 hectares of land for reserve so that it can start mine and bomb detection work as soon as possible.
The prime minister has also tasked the Minister of Transport, chairman of the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises, ACV chairman and general director, and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation with mobilizing employees and equipment and adopting effective solutions to develop the first phase of the project and put it into operation in 2025, as targeted by the National Assembly.
