HCMC – The My Thuan Project Management Unit is seeking approval from authorities to revise up the cost of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project to over VND6.6 trillion from the original VND5.18 trillion.
The project management unit proposed adding VND1.42 trillion to the project’s cost. It said higher spending on site clearance, project management, and consulting service now lead to an increase in the total investment capital.
Earlier, the prime minister in a decision in late 2020 approved in principle the construction of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge connecting Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces. The Ministry of Transport in September 2021 agreed on the project.
Rach Mieu 2 Bridge across the Tien River, which is 17.6 kilometers long, is designed to have four lanes. The project, scheduled to be executed in 2021-2025, was originally estimated to cost VND5.18 trillion, which would be sourced from the State budget.
The project management unit also proposed rescheduling the completion date of the project from 2025 to 2026.
Currently, land clearance on the side of Tien Giang Province is 46% complete while it is 83% done in Ben Tre Province.
Due to a lack of funding for site clearance and compensation on the part of Tien Giang Province, the handover of cleared land will be delayed until the fourth quarter of this year, affecting the progress of the access road package in the province.
