HCMC – The Thu Thiem 2 Bridge project has connected the two banks of the Saigon River, as the installation of all 17 steel beams for the main span of the bridge was already completed, said the project’s investor today, September 2.
According to the investor Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment JSC, engineers and workers had been working in recent days to install the steel beam AS16 to have the main span of the bridge connected by this month, linking District 1 and Thu Duc City.
The Thu Thiem 2 Bridge is among the key projects that were allowed by the municipal authorities to maintain the construction during the social distancing period in the city, while having to ensure the compliance with Covid safety protocols.
To ensure activities at the construction site follow Covid-safe measures, the investors had coordinated with the contractors and consulting units to adjust their ways of managing the project’s construction and quality in line with the situation. The contractors arranged the stay-at-work mode and organized periodic Covid tests for all technical employees and workers, among other anti-virus measures.
The investor said that it would be challenging to ensure the construction progress follows the schedule in the upcoming period due to the complicated development of the pandemic. Also, the arrangements of the stay-at-work mode, under which workers are provided with places to rest and eat at the construction site after work, and the periodic tests triggered by the prolonged outbreak have resulted in a cost overrun for the contractors.
The project is expected to complete the work on the main span by the end of this year and put the bridge into service in the second quarter of 2022.
The Thu Thiem 2 Bridge, once completed, would help connect the HCMC downtown with Thu Thiem New Urban Area, ease traffic congestion in the area, and promote the sustainable socioeconomic growth of HCMC in general and Thu Duc City in particular.
