HCMC – The Party Central Committee (PCC) has nominated Public Security Minister To Lam for State Presidency, and National Assembly (NA) Permanent Vice Chairman Tran Thanh Man for NA Chairmanship, the Vietnam News Agency reported today, May 18.
Earlier today, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong had a meeting with key Party leaders to review the country’s recent performance and outline priorities in accordance with the conclusions of the ninth plenum of the 13th PCC, held from May 16 to 18, according to the PCC Office.
The General Secretary congratulated the PCC on a high consensus to choose General To Lam, Politburo member and minister of Public Security, as a candidate for State Presidency, and Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member and permanent vice chairman of the 15th NA, as a candidate for Chairmanship of Vietnam’s legislative body.
To Lam, a 67-year-old native of Hung Yen Province, has served as Minister of Public Security since 2016. Tran Thanh Man, a 62-year-old native of Hau Giang Province, has held various leadership roles within the NA and the Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front.
At the meeting, the Party chief stressed the importance of unity among Party leadership and highlighted key tasks for the future, including economic growth, national security, and international relations.
The NA is expected to vote on these nominations at its 7th sitting which is slated to last from May 20 to June 28, with a recess between June 9 and June 16.
