HCMC – The Ministry of Transport is weighing solutions to cope with the rising airfares to Con Dao Island off the coast of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.
The ministry is calling for airlines to increase flight frequency and consider deploying aircraft types that are better suited to the current status of Con Dao Airport, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
Con Dao Airport’s infrastructure, which only supports smaller aircraft like ATR72, has restricted flight operations and led to higher ticket prices.
VASCO, a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines, is the sole airline operating flights to Con Dao using ATR72 aircraft. The recent suspension of Bamboo Airways’ Hanoi-Con Dao route due to fleet restructuring has further reduced the availability of air tickets, especially during peak travel seasons.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is closely monitoring ticket prices to ensure compliance with regulations.
