HCMC – The number of container trucks carrying goods for export stranded at border gates in the northern province of Lang Son has surged, causing a huge backlog of vehicles at the border gates.
The spike has resulted from China’s reopening its borders and easing quarantine measures in January, boosting trade between the two countries.
The province has recently seen around 500 container trucks coming to its border gates a day, leading to the sites being overwhelmed with nearly 1,000 trucks awaiting customs clearance, the local media reported.
Local authorities have worked with the Chinese agencies to seek solutions to clearing the backlog.
To reduce congestion at the Huu Nghi border gate, the Chinese authorities have agreed to reserve an exclusive lane for container trucks.
