HCMC – Vietnam’s two largest airports, Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai, served an estimated 145,000 passengers on the fourth day of the lunar new year, or February 4, according to the southern and northern airports authorities.
At the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, 332 flights landed at or took off from the airport with around 48,000 passengers in the day. On the previous day, 340 flights transported some 34,000 passengers to and from the airport, including 309 domestic flights carrying nearly 33,000 passengers.
In HCMC, the number of passengers traveling through the Tan Son Nhat International Airport on February 4 reached a record number during the Tet holiday, at over 97,700 passengers on 704 flights. Among them, 324 domestic flights departed from the airport with over 36,700 passengers, while 323 others arrived at the airport with more than 60,000 passengers.
The Vietnam News Agency cited representatives of the two airports saying that airlines and the airport ground staff during this peak travel period have made huge efforts to support passengers in conducting flight procedures and security screening.
The sudden rise in the number of passengers through the airports has led to a serious shortfall of taxi cabs since February 3. To cope with the issue, the Southern Airports Authority has worked with the HCMC Transport Department, the Taxi Association and the relevant units at the Tan Son Nhat airport to arrange more vehicles for serving passengers to prevent congestion.
