Vietnam Agribusiness Limited (VAL) has officially inaugurated its second soybean crushing line at Phu My 1 Industrial Park, adding 4,000 tons of processing capacity per day. Together with Line 1, which has been in operation since 2011, the facility’s total crushing capacity now reaches 7,800 tons per day, positioning VAL as one of the largest soybean crushing complexes in Southeast Asia.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Nguyen Cong Vinh, Vice Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee; Rajpal Singh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Singapore to Vietnam; Anne Benjaminson, Deputy Principal Officer of the U.S. Consulate in HCMC; Kuok Khoon Hong, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Wilmar International Limited; and Greg Heckman, Chief Executive Officer of Bunge, along with local government representatives, strategic partners, and members of the Management Boards of Bunge, Wilmar, and VAL.

At full operation, the two lines will process 2.6 million tons of soybeans annually and produce nearly two million tons of soybean meal, meeting approximately 30% of Vietnam’s domestic animal feed demand.

VAL is a joint venture between Bunge and Wilmar, specializing in oilseed processing and the supply of food and feed products. The commissioning of the second crushing line marks a key milestone in the company’s expansion strategy, reinforcing its role in strengthening Vietnam’s food and feed ingredient security.

Located on an 11.2-hectare site at Phu My 1 Industrial Park, the VAL complex is designed to maximize operational efficiency and ensure product quality. The facility is equipped with eight high-capacity storage silos with a combined capacity of 120,000 tons, supported by fully automated temperature and humidity control systems to maintain freshness, nutrient stability, and optimal processing conditions.

With total investment exceeding US$100 million, the new crushing line is built to international standards and integrates full automation with real-time quality monitoring and control systems. These technologies aim to improve operational efficiency, conserve energy, ensure consistent product quality, and meet stringent safety and environmental requirements.

The facility incorporates advanced technologies from global suppliers such as Desmet and Crown, with automated processes covering cleaning, dehulling, flaking, conditioning, and extraction. Smart sensors combined with near-infrared (NIR) analysis continuously monitor key parameters to minimize deviations and maintain consistent product quality. Operations comply with international standards including HACCP, HALAL, KOSHER, ISO 22000:2018, ISO 14001:2015, FSSC version 6, and OSHA, supporting food safety, traceability, and environmental responsibility.

For customers, VAL commits to on-time delivery of fully traceable soybean meal with a freshness advantage, as localized production eliminates the typical two-month sea transport required for imported products.

VAL’s total crushing capacity reaches 7,800 tons per day, meeting approximately 30% of the domestic animal feed demand.

In addition to serving the domestic livestock sector, the facility is expected to produce more than 500,000 tons of crude soybean oil annually for both domestic use and export. This output is expected to strengthen Vietnam’s position among key soybean oil exporters in the region, with access to major markets such as South Korea.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Cong Vinh, Vice Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, said: “Today’s inauguration ceremony stands as a vivid testimony to the trust of international investors in Ho Chi Minh City’s prospects for robust and sustainable development. The new plant is expected to become one of the major agricultural processing projects in Southeast Asia. It will feature modern production lines that meet stringent environmental standards and align with the City’s orientation toward high-tech agricultural development. I firmly believe that, with its strategic location in Phú Mỹ Ward – an industrial, urban, port, and logistics gateway of the City – together with its capacity to supply around 30% of the soybean meal market for the animal feed industry, this project will play an important role in ensuring food security, reducing supply chain risks, and stabilizing production costs for the livestock sector; increasing budget revenue, creating thousands of stable, high-income jobs, thereby improving the livelihoods of residents and fostering the City’s sustainable growth.”

The newly inaugurated Line 2 was developed in line with VAL’s commitment to green growth and responsible development. The facility incorporates heat-recovery systems to reduce energy use, closed-loop water recycling to minimize discharge, and continuous automation to lower workplace risks. VAL also promotes a strong safety culture through regular training programs across its operations. By prioritizing three pillars – efficiency, sustainability, and safety – VAL continues to expand its production capabilities while reinforcing its responsibility to the environment, the community, and future generations.

Sharing the company’s long-term direction, Nguyen Minh Vi, General Director of Vietnam Agribusiness Limited (VAL), said: “The commissioning of our second soybean crushing line marks a significant milestone in VAL’s long-term strategy to expand production capacity and meet growing demand in both domestic and international markets. With one of the region’s most integrated and technologically advanced production complexes, guided by a strong commitment to sustainability, VAL is confident in our ability to deliver meaningful value to our partners and communities – contributing to the development of a modern, self-reliant, and sustainable livestock sector.”

Looking ahead, VAL said it remains committed to expanding production capacity while creating long-term value and supporting the development of a resilient food and livestock ecosystem for Vietnam within the global supply chain.
