Vietnam Australia International School (VAS) organized a career guidance seminar for parents and students in grades 9-12 on May 11, titled “Career Talk: Accompany Your Child to Conquer Desired Careers and Universities”. The event was held at VAS and was open to both VAS students and students from other schools.
The program featured three keynote speakers who shared their insights on three popular groups of majors: Applied Science & Psychology – Ms. Vu Phi Yen, Doctor of Medical Genetics & Master of Clinical Psychology in France, Lecturer at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Psychology coach; Business Administration and Related Fields – Ms. Hoang Lam, Master, Founder & Managing Director of Etest Vietnam, Honorary Ambassador of Arkansas – USA; Information Technology (IT) and Programming – Mr. Hai Nhan, Founder & CEO of Geek UP, Member of the IT University.
Part 2 of the program provided information on universities and scholarship opportunities in popular study abroad destinations: North America (US/Canada), Australia/New Zealand, UK/Europe with representatives from study abroad counseling organizations.
After the program, participants can register for a 1:1 direct consultation with a career counselor from the VAS UCCC for in-depth advice.
Career guidance for children: Difficult but easy
This was a sharing by Dr. Vu Phi Yen at the seminar. According to Ms. Yen, when choosing a career, one should start with “Why” and the key considerations should be whether the career allows your child to thrive, find fulfillment, and contribute meaningfully. This sentiment was echoed by Mr. Quan Minh Dung, Head of the UCCC.
Dr. Vu Phi Yen shed light on the distinctions between basic and applied science, highlighting the unique appeal of each field. She also offered guidance to parents on how to support their children in choosing a career path that aligns with their interests, avoiding a potential “rebellious” phase.
Through a 14-year journey of continuous learning and research in the medical field, but now finding happiness in the field of psychology, Ms. Yen affirmed: “No wrong step is truly wrong if our attitude in each stage is wholeheartedly.”

VAS launched a new ‘Career Talk’ seminar series in the 2023-2024 school year, offered by the University and Career Counseling Center (UCCC).
On May 18, VAS will continue to organize a Career Talk seminar on the topic of “Exploring Student Life”, with real-life sharing from former VAS students who are studying abroad or have graduated from prestigious universities.
