HCMC – Vietnam Airlines, the national flag carrier, has announced to increase flights to Con Dao Island off the coast of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province from April.

The plan aims to meet the growing air travel demand during the upcoming summer holiday.

The carrier will operate 26 to 30 flights a day between HCMC and Con Dao, utilizing ATR-72 turboprop aircraft. This represents an increase of nearly 50% in flight numbers compared to the previous month.

Vietnam Airlines’ decision comes in response to Bamboo Airways’ suspension next month of air services from the country’s two biggest cities, Hanoi and HCMC, to Con Dao.

Following Bamboo Airways’ withdrawal, Vietnam Airlines and its affiliate, Vasco, will be the only local airline offering air services connecting Con Dao with the mainland.

Last year, air travel accounted for 72% of total tourist arrivals to Con Dao Island. In addition to air services, visitors can also reach Con Dao from Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Soc Trang, and Can Tho by high-speed ferry.
