HCMC – Vietnam and Cambodia today, December 8, inaugurated the Tan Nam–Meun Chey international border gate, creating a new trade corridor between Tay Ninh Province and Cambodia’s Prey Veng Province.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet co-chaired the opening ceremony on December 8. The project, launched late last year, cost over VND270 billion.
Speaking at the event, PM Chinh said the new border gate is expected to become a model for modern, digitally driven cross-border management. He said it will support border control, trade, and tourism while contributing to a secure, cooperative, and economically dynamic border region.
He called on ministries and local authorities of both countries to strengthen coordination on border security, combat cross-border crime, simplify procedures, and digitize customs processes. Building a smart border gate, he said, would help cut time and cost for businesses.
Tay Ninh authorities were urged to complete transport, digital, and power infrastructure around the border gate and create conditions for investment in logistics, warehousing, and border trade centers. Industry associations and businesses were encouraged to seek new cooperation opportunities.
During the same event, the two prime ministers also inaugurated the Tan Nam–Meun Chey Friendship Bridge linking the two sides of the border.
Tay Ninh Province shares more than 368 kilometers of border with Cambodia and now hosts four international border gates: Moc Bai, Xa Mat, Tan Nam, and Binh Hiep, along with several primary and auxiliary checkpoints and three border-gate economic zones.
Tan Nam lies between border markers 131 and 132. It was designated an auxiliary border gate in 2009 and upgraded to an international border gate in 2017.
