HCMC – Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade announced a decision on April 1 to impose provisional anti-dumping duties on certain coated steel products originating from China and South Korea.
The duties, ranging from 15.67% to 37.13%, are intended to protect the domestic steel industry amid a sharp increase in imports.
According to the decision, the highest rate of 37.13% applies to coated steel from China, while imports from South Korea face a maximum tariff of 15.67%.
The products subject to the duties include flat-rolled carbon steel, in coil or sheet form, containing less than 0.6% carbon by weight, that has been coated, plated, or galvanized with corrosion-resistant metals such as zinc, aluminum, or iron-based alloys.
However, certain specialized steel products—such as chrome-coated steel, stainless steel, or electro-galvanized steel—are excluded from the scope of the duties.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the spike in coated steel imports could cause significant injury to producers in Vietnam without timely intervention. The provisional anti-dumping duties, it said, are a necessary step to safeguard local manufacturing.
