HCMC – Vietnam has opened its market to British live seafood products, with an estimated value of £20 million over five years, starting from April 1, 2025, said the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
The agreement unlocks ample opportunities for exports of UK live seafood to Vietnam, which is among the highest consumers of seafood per capita.
Vietnam, which has the highest per capita seafood consumption in Southeast Asia at 37 kilograms per year, offers a promising market for premium British seafood. Coastal communities across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales are well-positioned to benefit from these new export opportunities.
British seafood exports to Vietnam have already shown strong growth, with fresh, frozen, and processed products seeing a 40% year-on-year increase in the January-September period of 2024.
This breakthrough creates new export opportunities that coastal communities across the length and breadth of the UK have pushed for in recent years. Unlocking the Vietnamese live seafood market will boost local economies and support jobs across Britain’s shorelines, contributing to nationwide economic growth.
