Vietnam’s top leader set to visit U.S., Cuba

HCMC – Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and President To Lam will be paying a working visit to the United States and a state visit to Cuba.

From September 22 to 26, the country’s top leader, along with his spouse and a high-ranking delegation, will participate in the Future Summit at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly and engage in diplomatic activities in the U.S.

They will then travel to Cuba for a state visit at the invitation of Cuba’s First Secretary and President Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez, and his spouse.

This will be To Lam’s first visits to the U.S. and Cuba in his capacity as Party General Secretary and President of Vietnam.

In a recent statement, the United Nations Secretary-General said he was looking forward to meeting with Party General Secretary and President To Lam to further strengthen cooperation between the two sides.

As for U.S.-Vietnam relations, this month marks one year since both nations upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Over the past year, there have been multiple high-level exchanges between Vietnam and the U.S.

Recently, the U.S. announced US$1 million in humanitarian aid for Vietnam to recover from the devastation caused by typhoon Yagi.

Vietnam and Cuba have maintained diplomatic relations since December 2, 1960. Vietnam continues to value its traditional friendship and solidarity with Cuba, seeking to further develop long-standing bilateral ties.
