Trang An Festival – Heritage Connection is set to take place on November 17 this year in the northern province of Ninh Binh, home to many popular destinations, including UNESCO-recognized heritages.
Tran Viet Phuong, deputy director of the provincial Department of Culture and Sports, said that the three-day festival is expected to boost cultural exchange activities, honor cultural heritages, and promote tourism growth among provinces and cities at home and overseas.
Also, the festival is among activities put in place to celebrate Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23), he added.
The festival will feature an exhibition on cultural heritages, a street festival, and a music festival.
Quang Binh eyes tour service in flood season
The People’s Committee of Quang Binh Province has allowed a local firm to survey and develop a tour service where tourists can experience the daily life of local people during the flood season in this central province.
The travel firm got the green light to study and pilot the service from November 1 to 31 this year in flooded areas in Tan Hoa Commune, Minh Hoa District.
Joining this pilot tour, tourists can experience kayaking and paddleboarding around flooded areas, donate gifts to the locals and get to know more about their daily activities in the flood season, according to thanhnien.vn.
The travel firm was asked to work with the authorities of Minh Hoa District to complete the pilot tour service. It must comply with the prevailing regulations when using vehicles and equipment to serve the tour.
In addition, the firm has to ensure the optimal safety of those joining the pilot tour, protect the natural environment, respect the local culture and customs, and support the local authorities and community in natural disaster prevention and control efforts.
The only kindergarten teacher in a westernmost district
Ban Van Duc, the only male teacher of a branch of Nam Ke Kindergarten in Muong Nhe District, Dien Bien Province, has taught children of this kindergarten branch over the past 11 years.
Duc gets out of his house at 5 a.m. every day to buy food for some 50 pupils and rides his motorbike on winding slopes to the school, which is 17km from the main kindergarten, be it rain or shine. His students are mostly Mong ethnic minorities at 4-5 years old, learning in two classes depending on their ages. At 9:30 a.m., when the children are playing in the schoolyard, Duc prepares lunch for his students. After lunch, they take a nap right in their classes before starting the afternoon class.
Duc was the only teacher of this branch in the initial years; recently, a female teacher has been sent to this branch to lend him a helping hand in taking care of some 50 pupils. As most Mong children have not yet learned Vietnamese language, the teacher had to learn Mong language to be able to communicate with kindergarteners and their parents before teaching them Vietnamese language, according to vnexpress.net.
A voluntary road repairer in Can Tho
Tran Minh Trung, 38, has repaired roads in Can Tho City and An Giang and Dong Thap provinces with his teammates over the past 17 years.
Trung told thanhnien.vn that 17 years ago he saw an old man fell down, broke his limbs and was later paralyzed because of a pothole. He then decided to repair the roads around his native Tan Loc Islet in Thot Not District, Can Tho City. Initially, he repaired the roads alone, using cement. Later he used asphalt as this material is better than cement. Seeing Trung’s good deed, many young men on the islet asked to be his teammates to lend him a hand. Trung’s team has some 50 members and this figure remains almost unchanged over the past 17 years. Now they repair roads around Can Tho City and even in neighboring provinces of An Giang and Dong Thap. Apart from repairing roads, his team has also widened about 60 small bridges around the islet.
With many certificates of merit granted to Trung and his team by the State President, the Prime Minister and local authorities for their voluntary job, local residents and benefactors have contributed money and materials for them to continue their good deed.
