HCMC – The Vietnam Road Administration has proposed including two more expressways in the national road network development plan.
This proposal was detailed in a report submitted by the Vietnam Road Administration to the Ministry of Transport, suggesting adjustments to the road network plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision extending to 2050.
The two expressways are Ca Mau-Dat Mui in the Mekong Delta and Quang Ngai-Kon Tum in central Vietnam.
The 90-kilometer Ca Mau-Dat Mui Expressway would feature four lanes while the 136-kilometer Quang Ngai-Kon Tum Expressway would have four lanes as well. Both expressways are slated for development before 2030.
The proposed inclusion of these expressways in the national plan is based on updated forecasts of GDP growth rates, which have led to increased demand for transportation. Relevant localities had previously conducted research and incorporated these routes into their provincial planning.
The Vietnam Road Administration also recommended increasing the number of lanes on four sections of the Eastern North-South Expressway. These sections include Phap Van-Phu Thu, Ben Luc-Trung Luong, Can Tho-Ca Mau, and Noi Bai-Bac Ninh-Halong.
With these adjustments and the inclusion of the new expressways, the total length of expressways in the national plan now stands at around 9,234 kilometers, an increase of around 220 kilometers from the previous plan.
