HCMC – Vietnam’s telecom giant Viettel Group has announced that its 5G network has obtained three million users after just 15 days of its launch.
Most of the subscribers are from Hanoi, HCMC, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Haiphong, accounting for nearly half of the overall subscriber base, according to VNA.
The same-period growth rate of 5G users is twice that of 4G, which was launched over seven years ago. The 5G users can still access their services without any interruptions when traveling to areas with only 4G coverage.
Viettel is prioritizing urban areas, having installed over 6,000 5G base transceiver stations (BTS) that cover 95% of the outdoor population. The company aims to expand indoor coverage by 2025, enabling users in urban areas to experience 5G indoors similar to the current 4G experience.
In addition, Vinaphone is planning to roll out a free 5G trial program, offering customers with 50GB of data valid for 30 days from October 13 to November 15.
MobiFone has also announced plans to provide 5G services starting in November 2024, leveraging partnerships to share suitable infrastructure with other telecom operators.
