HCMC – Vietnam’s internet speed has entered the world’s top 40 for the first time, according to a report by Ookla Speedtest.

The report showed that Vietnam’s mobile internet download speed reached 86.96 Mbps in December 2024, the highest recorded in the country. This marked a 60% increase from September and lifted Vietnam seven places to 37th in the global ranking.

For fixed broadband, Vietnam first entered the top 40 in June 2024 with a speed of 136 Mbps. The latest data from Ookla showed an increase to 159.32 Mbps, placing the country 35th worldwide.

Vietnam’s average internet speeds exceeded the global mobile and fixed broadband averages of 62.79 Mbps and 96.45 Mbps, respectively. The United Arab Emirates leads in mobile internet speed at 453.87 Mbps, while Singapore tops the fixed broadband ranking with 330.98 Mbps.

The Vietnamese Government has set a target for 2025 to ensure 5G services in all provinces, high-tech zones, research centers, industrial parks, ports, and international airports. By 2030, 5G coverage is expected to reach 99% of the population.
