When solar panel farm becomes a selfie spot

By Mai Anh

Must read

At the foot of Cam Mountain lies a “glass sea” that quietly shimmers in the sunlight. Thousands of solar panels soak up the sun, turning every beam into pulses of energy. Winds whistle through this sea of solar panels, creating a faint metallic hum. Above, drifting clouds reflect on the gleaming surface below–painting a scene that feels both dreamy and futuristic.

A pioneer in innovation and uniqueness

Covering 275 hectares in An Thanh Hamlet, An Hao Commune, Tinh Bien Town, An Giang Province, Sao Mai Solar boasts an installed capacity of 210 MWp, making it one of the largest solar farms in southern Vietnam.

Each year, it supplies over 302 million kWh to the national grid, an impressive feat for a land once considered sun-scorched and barren. Through careful planning and redevelopment, Sao Mai Group has transformed the site into a vibrant ecological complex. Visitors can walk through a vast “energy meadow,” scale a water tower for sweeping views, and witness a landscape where solar power is used to illuminate the very system that produces it. From this vision emerged a unique destination: the An Hao Solar Farm.

For visitors, the solar farm resembles a themed park. A spiral staircase leads to the water tower, where panoramic views of the silver-panel fields unfold. Nearby, the crystal-clear Thien Canh Lake is dotted with stones from Cam Mountain, and flocks of sheep wander beneath the solar panel arrays. Bougainvillea gardens, a Buddha hand sculpture, and a dining area serving Bay Nui specialties offer attractions for both avid photographers and cultural explorers alike.

The water tower gives visitors a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape

In several countries, there have been attempts to combine renewable energy projects with tourism. For instance, a visitor center sits within a 5 MW solar farm along Interstate 40 in Tennessee, and guided tours are offered at the Mont-Soleil solar and wind power station in Switzerland. However, these models are mostly limited to brief educational visits and have yet to become full-scale destinations with leisure and service experiences.

Lush greenery and a spring-fed lake blanket the entire grounds, creating a refreshing natural landscape

The integration of An Hao Solar Farm with nearby tourist sites marks it as a pioneering initiative in Vietnam and a rare example in Southeast Asia, where electricity generation, science education, leisure, dining, and resort-style experiences all converge in one location near Thien Cam Son.

The solar farm’s impact reaches far beyond tourism. It has created hundreds of local jobs in Tinh Bien, supported border security, and helped preserve the region’s rural charm while keeping pace with global innovation. Built under the guidance of international experts, the facility follows professional standards and is fully equipped to meet the highest benchmarks in renewable energy.

Sheep grazing adds a charming and enjoyable experience for visitors.

Sao Mai Solar is more than a power source; it is a symbol of hope for a net-zero tourism future in Vietnam. For those eager to feel the sun and wind of the Mekong Delta while seeing a real solar power plant up close, a visit to the An Hao Solar Farm is highly recommended. At the site, every corner offers inspiration, and every photo serves as a reminder of the green journey taking shape at the foot of the mountain.
