Additional 1,196 domestic Covid-19 infections confirmed

HCMC – Vietnam’s Covid-19 cases have climbed to 36,605 as the Ministry of Health reported 1,196 new cases this afternoon, July 14, with 971 cases in HCMC.

Tien Giang followed HCMC with 115 cases. Dong Thap came next with 91 cases and Phu Yen with eight cases. Moreover, three cases were found in Ben Tre, two in Bac Giang and one in each of Thua Thien-Hue, Vinh Phuc, Lao Cai, Lam Dong, Nghe An and Hanoi.

Up to 1,095 cases were detected at quarantine centers or in areas on lockdown, and the infection sources of 101 others remain unknown, including 83 cases in HCMC.

The number of Covid-19 cases in the city by today afternoon, July 1, had reached 18,210, with 1,637 of them reported so far today.

In the entire country, today’s Covid-19 case are put at 2,101, found in 23 localities.

In the Mekong Delta, Dong Thap has been the first locality to pilot allowing direct contacts of Covid-19 patients to self-quarantine at home if meeting anti-virus requirements. The move is intended to prevent cross infection at concentrated quarantine facilities and ease pressure on the healthcare sector.

The solution will be piloted on people aged below five and over 70 and those suffering from serious illnesses confirmed by the district-level steering committees for Covid-19 infection prevention and control. They will be placed under home quarantine for 21 days and self-monitor their health conditions for seven more days.

In An Giang, the government has decided to impose social distancing under the prime minister’s Directive 16 on its nine cities, towns and districts for 10 days, from 0 a.m. on July 15.

The central province of Phu Yen has also employed the same measure in Tuy Hoa City for 14 days from 0 a.m. on July 15.

Twenty days after Tuy Hoa detected its first Covid-19 cases, the city has recorded 360 cases out of the 615 cases in the province.
