HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for stronger measures against wastefulness, stating that anti-wastefulness must be treated as an essential daily practice, like food and water.
He was speaking at the first meeting of the national steering committee on anti-wastefulness on February 25, which reviewed progress and set priorities for 2025.
The meeting, held at the Government Office and streamed to all 63 provinces and centrally-run cities, focused on resolving stalled projects and improving resource management.
Chinh emphasized the need to address inefficiencies in public asset management and infrastructure projects. He instructed ministries to respond quickly to local government requests and report unresolved issues to higher authorities.
The Ministry of Finance was tasked with consolidating key recommendations and drafting a new directive on waste prevention.
Chinh warned that wastefulness remains a pressing issue, affecting time, resources, and public assets, and pointed to unused government buildings and inefficient land use as examples of wastefulness.
He stressed the need for leadership accountability and called for stricter enforcement of anti-wastefulness measures. The Government will refine legal frameworks and remove unnecessary regulations to improve efficiency.
The Ministry of Finance will finalize a 2025 action plan for the steering committee by March 15. Chinh urged all ministries and local authorities to accelerate efforts, emphasizing that anti-wastefulness must be a continuous process.
