Canadian Wood Vietnam showcases sustainable softwood solutions at Vietnamwood 2025

Must read

Canadian Wood Vietnam is participating in VietnamWood 2025 – one of Vietnam’s largest international woodworking trade fairs – held from 19–22 November at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC).

Spanning 13,500 square meters and featuring over 320 exhibitors from 28 countries, VietnamWood has established itself as the leading exhibition in Vietnam’s wood processing industry, specializing in machinery, technology, sawn timber, and consumable materials for wood processing plants. The fair primarily attracts domestic and international manufacturers, interior design and construction companies, wood distributors, and sourcing offices.

At this year’s event, Canadian Wood Vietnam presented an immersive exhibition booth showcasing the diverse applications of Canadian softwood in furniture products and decorative elements, illustrating the versatility of Canadian wood species. A unique highlight was the wall of color panels, featuring a range of finishes from light to dark tones, showcasing the outstanding versatility of Canadian wood and how the species can match a range of designs and market trends.

In line with the exhibition’s woodworking theme, Canadian Wood Vietnam distributes wood samples of Canadian species as giveaways, encouraging visitors to experiment with finishes. The company’s technical experts are at the showcase to provide technical consultations and inform manufacturers about joining the Canadian Wood Trial Program – an initiative that supplies lumber to factories for trial use and provides technical support without charge. Through this program, factories can directly test Canadian softwoods to optimize production and expand their sourcing options with confidence.

According to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs and Vietnam Furniture Export 2024-25, Vietnam’s wood and furniture exports surged to US$16.25 billion in 2024, a 20% increase over the previous year. For 2025, the industry is expected to hit US$18 billion, with growing emphasis on sustainability, legal sourcing, and transparency.

The adoption of certified wood from responsibly managed forests is not only a regulatory requirement in Vietnam but also an important strategic move to remain competitive in global markets. Therefore, Canadian softwoods certified to internationally recognized third-party standards such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) provide a trusted solution for manufacturers to enhance product quality and meet the growing consumer preference for furniture made from responsibly sourced wood. In addition, Canadian Wood supports businesses in sourcing Canadian softwood, while providing technical assistance, training assessments, and market development consulting.

On this foundation, five Canadian softwood species are widely adopted in Vietnam for their distinct attributes. Western Hemlock is valued for versatility, Douglas-Fir for strength, Western Red Cedar for natural resistance to decay and termites, Yellow Cedar for durability, and Spruce-Pine-Fir (SPF) for dimensional stability. They are suitable for a wide range of applications, from furniture and doors to windows and outdoor structures, aligning closely with the performance and design requirements of Vietnamese manufacturers.

“VietnamWood is a valuable opportunity for Canadian Wood Vietnam to connect and engage directly with manufacturers and industry professionals in the wood processing industry, helping us gain a better understanding of needs and development trends in the Vietnamese market, said Vince Tran, country director of Canadian Wood Vietnam. “We are pleased to see the growing recognition of Canadian lumber not only for its sustainability credentials, but also for its technical reliability. Our mission is to support factories in the region in adopting Canadian softwoods for efficient, high-quality production, reinforcing our role in the sustainable growth of Vietnam’s wood industry.”

As part of its market development efforts, Canadian Wood aims to advance education on the use of softwood lumber from British Columbia and on sustainable material adoption, contributing to the long-term development of Vietnam’s wood industry.
