HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has announced plans to expand the 50-km Cau Gie-Ninh Binh Expressway from four to six traffic lanes, according to the Ministry of Transport.

This upgrade will help alleviate traffic congestion and ensure safety on the expressway, in response to the increased vehicle volume, especially following the opening of segments of the North-South Expressway, such as Cao Bo-Mai Son and Mai Son-National Highway 45.

Upon completion of the expansion project, the expressway’s speed limit might be increased.

In March 2023, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) proposed expanding a 19.7-km section of the Cau Gie-Ninh Binh Expressway, with an investment cost of VND510 billion, spanning from Dai Viet to Liem Tuyen.

Considering the initial investment in bridges, sewers, and roadbeds during the expressway’s first phase, the second phase will focus on enlarging the road surface using available reserve land and making necessary adjustments.

The Cau Gie-Ninh Binh Expressway serves as an arterial route for southern Hanoi, with an average daily traffic volume of 60,000 vehicles.
