HCMC – Searches by Chinese people for Vietnamese tourism increased during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, and represented 95% of the total in 2020, according to data from the digital travel platform Agoda.
The top five favorite destinations in Vietnam for Chinese tourists were HCMC, Hanoi, Nha Trang, Danang, and Phu Quoc Island.
Vu Ngoc Lam, director of Agoda in Vietnam, said that the return of Chinese tourists’ interest would be good for Vietnam’s tourism in the time ahead, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Vietnam has also achieved success in drawing tourists from other markets like India and South Korea, owing to relaxed visa policy, he added.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, China was the largest source market for Vietnamese tourism, with over 5.8 million Chinese coming to the country in 2019, accounting for one-third of the total international tourist arrivals.
In 2023, Vietnam attracted more than 1.74 million Chinese visitors, nearly a five-fold increase compared to the previous year.
