HCMC – The Ministry of Construction is seeking the prime minister’s approval to develop four new container terminals at Lach Huyen Port in Haiphong City, reported the local media.

The project is part of Vietnam’s 2021–2030 seaport development plan with a long-term vision to 2050. The Ministry of Finance has completed investment appraisal for terminals No. 9 to No. 12.

The terminals will handle container ships with capacities between 12,000 and 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). A 400-meter berth will serve barges on inland waterways. Total berth length is planned at 1,800 meters.

The project will also include container yards, repair facilities, roads, support structures and handling equipment. It will cover 146.2 hectares of land and water surface.

Investment is estimated at around VND24.85 trillion, to be executed in two phases. Phase one, from 2026 to 2030, includes terminals 9 and 10. Phase two, from 2031 to 2035, includes terminals 11 and 12.

The project aims to expand port capacity and boost cargo throughput. It is expected to create logistics jobs in the region. The operational term is set at a maximum of 70 years.
