HCMC – HCMC received 7,799 claims for unemployment benefits in February, down 26.06% from 10,549 in January, according to the city’s Employment Service Center.

Of the total, 7,363 applications were submitted directly and 436 through the national public service portal.

The decline suggests more workers returned to the labor market or found new jobs after the Lunar New Year holiday.

Nguyen Van Hanh Thuc, director of the city’s Employment Service Center, said the center worked with the HCMC Social Security to process unemployment insurance benefits for workers during the post-Tet period.

The center also reported a high rate of workers returning to the city’s labor market after the holiday.

Many businesses have adjusted salaries, bonuses and benefits to attract workers back to work. Some companies announced higher base wages or additional allowances in the first days after the holiday.

In February, the center received recruitment notices from 1,699 companies offering 2,954 job positions.

Unskilled and simple jobs accounted for the largest share of recruitment demand at 30.75%.

Other sectors with strong hiring demand included business and sales with 4,882 vacancies, accounting for 15.65%, and skilled manufacturing and machine operation with 4,877 vacancies, or 15.64%.
