Giving fishing rods to the needy
To Ngol Dan in Cha Val Commune, Nam Giang District, Quang Nam Province, was among the residents receiving cow breeds on Tuesday, August 9 from Huawei Vietnam and Tuoi Tre newspaper.
Dan said his family faced multiple difficulties over the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, storms and floods damaged his acacia and fruit farm.
He had wished to raise cows to improve his livelihood but he could not afford cow breeds. Therefore, he was over the moon to receive the cow breed.
Hien Thi Chan in the same commune with Dan also expressed her happiness when receiving a cow breed, saying that the cow breed was a big asset. Once the cow gives birth to calves, her family can escape poverty.
On August 9, Huawei Vietnam joined hands with Tuoi Tre newspaper to present 16 cow breeds to households in the Co Tu and Ta Rieng ethnic groups in Cha Val, Zuoih and Dac Toi communes of the mountainous district of Nam Giang.
Another 16 cow breeds worth some VND15 million each had been earlier handed over to households in Nam Tra My District, also in Quang Nam Province. Many cow breeds had been pregnant at the handover time.
Nguyen Huong, public relations manager at Huawei Vietnam, said over the past two years, the Covid-19 pandemic and floods had caused multiple difficulties for residents in the central region.
Huawei Vietnam initially planned to conduct the program after storms in 2020. However, the pandemic hindered the firm from carrying out the plan at the time.
As soon as the pandemic was brought under control, the plan was immediately conducted, Huong noted.
“We expect that residents will consider cow breeds as their means of living to overcome their difficulties, develop cow herds and escape poverty,” Huong said.
The program to present cow breeds to underprivileged households after the Covid-19 pandemic and floods was jointly conducted by Tuoi Tre newspaper and the Communist Youth Union in Quang Tri and Quang Ngai provinces and the Vietnam Farmer’s Union in Quang Nam and Quang Binh provinces with a fund of over VND2 billion.
Of the total, VND1 billion was contributed by Huawei Vietnam and the remaining by Tuoi Tre’s readers.
Contributing to education development
With a view that people are the core of development, Huawei Technologies Vietnam Co., Ltd acknowledges the importance of education. It has supported the training and development of human resources, especially in the IT-telecom sector, in Vietnam.
On December 3 last year, Huawei held a ceremony to review the “Seeds for the Future” program and award scholarships to students with excellent academic results.
Huawei has held the program in Vietnam for six consecutive years, offering effective training courses and diversified activities for IT-telecom students in Vietnam.
Fiona Li, deputy CEO of Huawei Vietnam, said, “The strong development of technology in all sectors, from manufacturing to daily life, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, has showed the importance of IT and telecom in society.”
The “Seeds for the Future” program is aimed at equipping knowledge and opening up opportunities for global students, including Vietnamese ones, to interact with leading experts in the IT-telecom sector.
The program has been conducted globally, demonstrating Huawei’s commitment to the world to train IT-telecom manpower. As of 2020, Huawei had cooperated with over 500 universities in 130 countries and attracted some 8,800 students to take part in the program.
In Vietnam, since the program was conducted for the first time in 2015, 96 excellent students from leading universities in Vietnam have been trained.
In 2021, despite obstacles triggered by the pandemic, 27 students were selected to join an online training course lasting from November 8 to 22. They, together with international friends, interacted with experts in IT and leadership.
They also had a chance to access the most advanced technologies, such as 5G, artificial intelligence and Cloud, and learn about Huawei’s tech exhibition centers.
Huawei Vietnam also organized webinars on 5G, digital transformation, ecommerce, games, startup, interview skills and multinational firms’ culture with the attendance of leading experts.
As part of its commitments to train talents, at the Asia Pacific Innovation Day – Digital Talent Summit 2021, Huawei and the ASEAN Foundation concluded a memorandum of understanding on their joint efforts to bridge the digital talent gap in the region.
Huawei would invest US$50 million in the next five years to develop 500,000 digital talents in the Asia Pacific region, including Vietnam, through the “Seeds for the Future” program.
Participating in the program, IT-telecom students can take part in many training courses, seminars and conferences on telecom, virtual reality, data analysis and sharing and new trends.
As part of its contributions to Vietnam’s education sector, on January 7 this year, Huawei Vietnam gave 100 tablets worth nearly VND480 million to students in Hoa Binh Province through the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee as many students had to learn online given the Covid-19 resurgence.
Bui Tien Luc, chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoa Binh Province, said amid the complicated pandemic, Huawei Vietnam’s donation of tablets was practical and the committee would distribute the tablets to the needy.
Speaking at a ceremony to hand over the tablets, Fiona Li said the company wanted to facilitate the online learning of students, especially those in remote areas.
In response to the Vietnamese Government’s call under the “mobile connectivity and computers for students” program, Huawei Vietnam decided to support students in Hoa Binh Province, which was hit heavily by the pandemic.
On December 6, 2021, at the Industry 4.0 Summit held by the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, David Wei, CEO of Huawei Vietnam, presented 100 iSitePower-M portable power stations valued at VND1.2 billion to schools in remote areas in Bac Kan and Hoa Binh provinces.
With the devices, Huawei expected to ensure the stable power supply, supporting students in these areas to access knowledge easily and quickly, and improving the education quality.
