HCMC – Numerous expressway and infrastructure projects across Vietnam are experiencing delays due to shortages of materials, particularly sand, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The Can Tho-Ca Mau expressway is still in the process of finalizing paperwork for 2.6 million cubic meters of sand, with no supplier confirmed yet. Similarly, the Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang expressway faces setbacks as provinces like An Giang and Tien Giang work to secure adequate sand supplies.

Other major projects, such as HCMC Beltway No. 3, are also grappling with material shortages. The beltway requires 5.8 million cubic meters of sand, with Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces tasked with providing most of the supply. Tien Giang is currently reviewing its resources to increase its contribution.

The Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway in Dong Nai Province is encountering additional delays due to difficulties in obtaining land for embankment fill, potentially jeopardizing its 2025 completion target.

In response, the Ministry of Transport has urged provincial authorities to expedite the licensing process. The Government is prioritizing material supply for critical projects like the Can Tho-Ca Mau expressway and HCMC Beltway No. 3, aiming to finalize arrangements by December 2024 to prevent further setbacks.
