HCMC – The Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board has proposed investing nearly VND74 trillion to upgrade and expand seven sections of the Ho Chi Minh Road in the 2026-2030 period.

The plan, submitted to the Ministry of Construction, includes sections from Pac Bo to Cao Bang, Phu Tho to Co Tiet, Chon Thanh to Duc Hoa, Duc Hoa to My An, Vinh Phong to An Xuyen, Ca Mau to Nam Can, and Nam Can to Dat Mui. These projects will be carried out depending on capital allocation under the next medium-term public investment plan.

Some sections overlap with the North-South Expressway and other expressway projects already underway. The My An–Cao Lanh section, 27 kilometers long with an investment of VND6.1 trillion, broke ground in July and is expected to be completed by 2028.

The HCMC–Thu Dau Mot–Chon Thanh section, nearly 59 kilometers long and valued at more than VND18.5 trillion, will be split into two projects and start partial construction in 2025. The Cao Lanh–Rach Soi section, under construction since mid-2024, is expected to finish in September.

The 129-kilometer Gia Nghia–Chon Thanh section, with an investment of VND25.9 trillion, started in April and August and is slated for completion in 2026.

By late August, 307 kilometers of the eastern North-South expressway had been completed, while more sections, including Cam Lo–La Son and La Son–Hoa Lien, are underway.

The Ho Chi Minh Road, planned under National Assembly Resolution 66/2013/QH13, is designed to have a total length of 2,744 kilometers from Pac Bo in Cao Bang Province to Dat Mui in Ca Mau Province, with at least two lanes. Nearly 2,500 kilometers, or 91%, have been completed, along with around 258 kilometers of branch routes.
