HCMC – BA.2.75, a new Omicron subvariant, has been reported in Vietnam with a high transmission rate, said the General Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health.

The General Department of Preventive Medicine has told the local health authorities across the country to ramp up their efforts in the monitoring and reporting of daily Covid infections given the rise in new cases in Vietnam and elsewhere in the world.

Until now, Vietnam has detected many new Omicron subvariants BA.4, BA.5, BA.2.12.1, and the latest BA.2.75 that are more transmissible than the previous versions, the local media reported.

The country recently reported around 2,000 daily new cases.

Yesterday, the country confirmed 1,695 new infections, 124 more than in the previous day.

According to the general department, some localities have registered to add a large number of cases detected earlier to the national Covid monitoring system, resulting in an inexact evaluation and forecast of the pandemic in the country.

Therefore, the general department has asked medical facilities nationwide to regularly update and report their daily cases in a timely manner.

The provincial health authorities were told to keep a close watch on the Covid developments in their areas, particularly the new subvariants, and regularly evaluate the Covid infection risk levels to adjust the anti-Covid measures in each locality.
